The biggest barrier to your success is your mind.
As John Milton perfectly put it:
The mind can make a heaven of hell and hell of heaven.
Your mind can paralyze you with self-doubt; yet with a shift in focus, your mind can make you fearless. The journey of self-mastery begins by breaking the habit of excessive thinking. At first that sounds impossible. From the minute you wake up, it’s like a wild horse bolting out the gate. This is exacerbated by our phone obsession – we check facebook or email before we sleep and the moment we get up, not giving ourselves a moment to step back and reflect.
One of my favorite teachers, Eckhart Tolle, masterfully teaches how to live in the present moment. He says,
Life consists of the present moment. It’s never not this moment. Even when you’re thinking about the past or future.
Here’s a terrific video where an audience member asks Eckhart, how do we break the habit of excessive thinking?
Check out Tolle’s answer. It’s magic.
