On those rare days I don’t give myself 20 minutes of stillness in the morning, I’m like a crazy woman permanently PMS’ing! The smallest things irritate me. So for me, investing 20 minutes to be still is the best return on investment I can give myself and the people I interact with.
Stimulation saturated
We’re living in the most information overloaded and stimulation saturated time in human’s history. So we can’t possibly be functioning at optimal levels. The more distracted we are, the less present, and therefore the less effective we are in selling and in life.
Demystifying the art and science of mindfulness
I loved this Oprah Winfrey interview with Jon Kabat-Zinn where he demystifies the art and science of mindfulness.
Flexin’ your mindfulness muscles
Jon explains how mindfulness is really simple but it’s not easy. Like going to the gym it takes time to develop your mindfulness muscles. Amongst the many delicious takeaways from this interview, the one that stood out for me was taken from this quote:
Next time you’re in the shower, check and see if you’re in the shower, because you may not be in the shower. You might have your Monday 9am meeting in the shower with you.
Your turn
So do this next time you’re in the shower: ask yourself, “am I here?” Simply being aware of where you are is enough to bring you to the present moment.
